Description
Soft-Baked Apple Cinnamon Rolls are the perfect combination of comforting, fall-inspired flavors, and soft, pillowy dough. When I first made these rolls, I couldn’t believe how quickly my family devoured them! The aroma of cinnamon and apples baking together filled the house, and everyone kept sneaking into the kitchen to “check” on them. Once they were out of the oven, we couldn’t wait to dig in. These rolls are soft, tender, and have the most delicious caramelized apple filling. If you’re looking for something to wow your loved ones with, this recipe is an absolute must-try!
Ingredients
Scale
For the dough:
- 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
- ½ cup whole milk (warmed)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp salt
For the apple filling:
- 2 large apples (peeled and diced)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- ½ cup light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, to thicken the filling)
For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 tbsp heavy cream (or milk)
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and yeast. Add the warm milk, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix everything together until it forms a soft dough. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size. - Make the Apple Filling:
While the dough is rising, prepare the apple filling. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, until the apples soften and caramelize. If the filling looks too runny, you can stir in the cornstarch to thicken it. Set the filling aside to cool. - Roll Out the Dough:
Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 12×18 inches. - Assemble the Rolls:
Spread the cooled apple filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Starting from the long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place the rolls into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. - Let It Rise Again:
Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes. - Bake:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through in the center. - Make the Glaze:
While the rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, melted butter, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and a pinch of cinnamon to make the glaze. - Glaze the Rolls:
Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool for about 10 minutes before drizzling the glaze over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
